Four academics at the University of Cyprus Medical School rank among the top 5 per cent of scientists worldwide in the AD Scientific Index, with Professor Giorgos Hadjigeorgiou in the top 1 per cent.
Associate Professor Giorgos Nikolopoulos, Associate Professor Panagiotis Zis and Assistant Professor Nikolaos Kadoglou are in the top 5 per cent. Zis and Kadoglou are also on the ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists’ list for 2025, in the ‘Single-Year Scientific Impact’ category.
The AD Scientific Index draws on bibliometric data from Google Scholar. These rankings are based on each researcher’s total h-index, which measures the productivity and impact of their published work over their career.
The ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists’ list was developed by a research team at Stanford University and uses bibliometric data from the Scopus database, according to the university. It assesses scientific impact over the most recent year, using a composite indicator that combines citations, the h-index and other bibliometric measures, and takes account of the scientist’s position among a paper’s authors.
The university said the rankings reflected the international reach of its academics’ research and confirmed their contribution to producing and advancing scientific knowledge. They were an important asset for the further development of the Medical School as it expands its international teaching presence, with an English-language medicine programme due to start in 2027, it added.
