Tuesday’s cultural agenda runs from a new video installation on how we see animals, opening in Nicosia this evening, to a stage version of Constantia Soteriou’s ‘Brandy Sour’ performed by Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot actors. It also takes in architecture talks, two festivals, exhibitions across the island and the week’s new films.
VISUAL ARTS
Nicosia, Diatopos Art Centre (22766117). Opening: 7pm. In the multi-channel video installation at the heart of the exhibition ‘A Planet in Common’, Yiannos Economou turns his camera on a relentless chase of birds and a cat’s awkwardness. An everyday incident becomes a prompt to question what we take for granted about animals’ behaviour, emotions and inner lives. Until November 13.
ARCHITECTURE
Nicosia, Frederick University Architecture Building, 6pm. Cyprus’s traditional and modern architecture, the craft of furniture-making and the threats to their preservation are the focus of an event held by Frederick University as part of European Heritage Days 2026. Titled ‘The heritage of everyday life. Traditional & Modern Architecture and Furniture-Making: risks, protection and prospects’, the event approaches cultural heritage not as a static relic of the past but as a living part of everyday life, collective memory and cultural identity. Speakers are Marios Pelekanos, associate professor in the Department of Architecture; Stella Evangelidou, a member of the Department of Architecture’s special teaching staff; Anna-Merry Oikonomou, assistant professor; and Konstantinos Oikonomides, visiting professor, in the Department of Arts and Communication.
SCREENING
Nicosia, Goethe-Institut, 7pm. The Goethe-Institut screens Sven Halfar’s documentary ‘Heaven Can Wait – Wir leben jetzt’ as part of its GoetheKino programme. The film follows a Hamburg choir whose members are all at least 70 years old and who experience the sense of freedom that singing brings.
