Twenty-five academics from the University of Nicosia (UNIC) are on the latest Stanford University list of the world’s most-cited scientists, published on 7 October, the university said.

Twenty-two feature in the single-year ranking for 2025, up from 20 in the previous edition, and 15 in the career-long ranking. Twelve appear in both.

The annual list, formally titled ‘Updated science-wide author databases of standardised citation indicators’, is commonly known as the Stanford list of the world’s top 2 per cent of scientists. It is produced by Elsevier with Professor John Ioannidis of Stanford University. It measures scientific impact using indicators including citations, the h-index, the co-authorship-adjusted hm-index and a composite score.
