The body of a 63-year-old electrician was recovered on Monday afternoon following a lengthy operation at a polystyrene manufacturing plant in Dromolaxia, Larnaca, where a fire broke out on Sunday.

Recovery teams established a safe corridor on the ground floor of the facility, with an anthropologist present during the retrieval of the victim’s remains.

The man, who had been carrying out electrical work on the first floor of the factory, was unable to escape the blaze. Four other maintenance workers who were on the ground floor managed to evacuate the burning building, with one suffering burns to their hand and requiring hospital treatment.

Police sources said the site remains under guard, with investigations into the cause of the fire postponed due to the building’s unstable condition.

Further structural assessments will be conducted before experts can enter the premises.
