President Christodoulides prepares proposals ahead of UN envoy DiCarlo’s visit

President Nikos Christodoulides has prepared a set of proposals to present to UN Deputy Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo on Monday, aimed at breaking the deadlock ahead of an informal multilateral meeting planned for March in Geneva.

DiCarlo is meeting both Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar separately during her visit to the divided island, as part of preparations for the proposed Geneva talks.

Government sources said Christodoulides has developed several proposals over the past 48 hours, including alternative options, demonstrating the Greek Cypriot side’s willingness to achieve progress in the peace negotiations.

While Christodoulides expressed readiness for a joint meeting with Tatar during DiCarlo’s visit, such a meeting appears unlikely given recent tensions between the two leaders.

DiCarlo, who arrived in Cyprus on Sunday, will also meet with civil society representatives, including youth and women’s groups.

Her regional tour continues with visits to Athens on February 12 and Ankara on February 13, with a planned stop in London at a later date.

The UN official’s Cyprus meetings begin with Tatar at 10:30 AM, followed by Christodoulides at noon, with an afternoon session scheduled with women’s groups at the Ledra Palace.
