Two men, aged 23 and 40, have been remanded in custody for eight days by the Nicosia District Court in connection with a violent attack on an Omonia-linked leftist association house in Lakatamia.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, following the Omonia-APOEL football match. Approximately 50 masked individuals armed with various weapons stormed the premises, causing extensive damage and injuring three people: two men aged 30 and 33, and a 68-year-old woman who manages the establishment. All three received medical treatment and were later discharged.

The suspects face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, unlawful entry, rioting, malicious damage, possession of offensive weapons, carrying weapons with intent to commit a felony, carrying weapons to cause fear, causing a disturbance, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Defence lawyers objected to the remand, leading the court to examine police testimony and cross-examine the investigating officer. The court concluded that further investigation was warranted and that the suspects’ involvement in the incident justified their continued detention.

Police are working to identify additional individuals involved in the attack and anticipate issuing more arrest warrants in the coming days.

The incident has been widely condemned, with Omonia Nicosia’s Board of Directors describing it as a “fascist, cowardly and murderous act” and calling for decisive action from the authorities.
