Former DISY leader Averof Neofytou submitted his nomination papers on Thursday for his bid to become the party’s candidate in the presidential election, reportedly with more than 3,000 signatures, well above the 500 required.
The party’s electoral congress will be held on Saturday, November 28, and barring a major surprise, Neofytou will face Giorgos Pamborides.
Under the party’s charter, candidates need at least 180 signatures from Nicosia, 120 from Limassol, 92 from Larnaca, 62 from Paphos and 46 from the free Famagusta district.

The deadline for submitting signatures is Friday, giving DISY staff time to check that they are valid before candidacies are formally submitted on November 26.
Neofytou arrived at the party’s headquarters on Pindarou Street at 5pm, as his office had announced in the morning, accompanied by friends and associates.
