Police arrested two men on Monday in connection with a violent attack at an Omonia-linked leftist association house in Lakatamia following Sunday’s derby game between Omonia and APOEL.
A 20-year-old and a 40-year-old face multiple charges including conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal entry, rioting, malicious damage, possession of offensive weapons, armed possession with intent to commit a felony, carrying weapons to cause terror, disturbance of the peace, and assault causing actual bodily harm.
The suspects will appear before Nicosia District Court on Tuesday morning for a detention order hearing, police said.
Their arrests followed forensic examination of evidence collected at the scene and analysis of CCTV footage. Nicosia CID investigators are expected to seek additional arrest warrants related to the incidents.
According to police investigations, approximately 50 masked individuals carrying various offensive weapons entered the fan club premises around 10:30 p.m., causing extensive damage. The violence occurred after the conclusion of the Omonia-APOEL match, and authorities believe the perpetrators may have been present outside the GSP Stadium earlier.
Three people were injured during the incident – two men aged 30 and 33, and a 68-year-old woman. All three received first aid at hospital and were subsequently discharged.
In a separate incident, a 44-year-old woman who was arrested before the match began in the stadium’s southern parking area appeared in Nicosia District Court on Monday. She faced charges of causing a disturbance, public insult, and resisting lawful arrest.
The court found her guilty of public insult, insulting a police officer, and resisting lawful arrest, imposing fines totalling 600 euros.
