A large wildfire has entered Mallia village in the Limassol district, affecting residential properties.
Residents have been required to evacuate their homes as the fire has spread within the community, according to community leader Marilena Athini, speaking to philenews.
“Civil Defence has been with us from the very first moment,” Athini stated, describing the situation as “extremely critical.” She added, “We are requesting further assistance from aerial resources and the Fire Service. The situation has been challenging for the past hour.”
Athini confirmed that the fire originated near the river before extending into the village itself, where properties are now burning.
In response to the situation, Andreas Aristotelous Savva, the community leader of Pachna, issued an announcement: “For all our fellow citizens who were required to evacuate their homes in neighbouring Mallia, we inform you that the Pachna Community Council’s ‘Georgios Markantonis’ Multi-Purpose Hall is prepared to host them with air conditioning, juices, and water.”
