Firefighters are actively evacuating homes in Mallia village, Limassol district, as a wildfire rages dangerously close to residential properties. Initial reports indicate that some structures have already been impacted.

The Fire Service is leading the evacuation efforts, pending the activation and response of the Civil Defence and Police. In parallel, police have closed the Mallia-Omodos and Mallia-Arsos roads to traffic due to the ongoing fire.

According to the Fire Service spokesperson, fire stations from Limassol city and district have deployed six staffed firefighting vehicles. They are supported by an additional two vehicles from the Department of Forests and two from the volunteer group SupportCY

Authorities have also requested the assistance of six aerial firefighting assets. The “IKAROS II” plan, which outlines a coordinated national response to large-scale fires, is currently in effect. Air support is also being provided by British Bases.

Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis is en route to the affected area to monitor the situation.
