President Nikos Christodoulides said on Thursday he is awaiting updates on UN Deputy Secretary-General Rosemary Di Carlo’s diplomatic engagements, particularly her talks in Turkey.

Speaking to reporters in Limassol, Christodoulides confirmed he had received a briefing from the Greek Foreign Minister about Di Carlo’s Athens discussions, which he described as following expected lines after his own meeting with the UN official.

“The key lies in today’s meeting in Turkey”, Christodoulides said. “As agreed with Ms Di Carlo, we will receive a briefing on the outcomes of her contacts in Turkey, the response, and how we proceed forward. Let’s hope for positive news”.

The president had previously met with Di Carlo as part of her regional diplomatic tour aimed at advancing peace initiatives in Cyprus.
