President Nikos Christodoulides emphasised on Monday that the current status quo cannot constitute a solution to the Cyprus problem during his meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, at the Presidential Palace.
Christodoulides expressed readiness to present specific proposals at the expanded meeting planned for March, aiming to achieve positive results.
“We are ready to participate. The current status quo is not a solution, and as time passes, the situation deteriorates”, he stressed.
The president highlighted that there are no “frozen conflicts” in the broader region and reiterated his intention to discuss ways to resume negotiations “from where they left off in Crans-Montana”, presenting specific proposals.
DiCarlo expressed optimism about the expanded March meeting, conveying UN Secretary-General António Guterres’s commitment to assist both sides in finding common ground.
“The Secretary-General is fully committed to helping the sides move forward. I am pleased this meeting will take place”, she said, adding that the dates would be announced soon.
