Eddie, a dog found abandoned in a garbage bin in Paphos has been discharged from veterinary care after a 16-day recovery period, while police continue their investigation into the animal abuse case.

The dog, named Eddie, was discovered in a Paphos waste bin on January 16. Two men, aged 30 and 61, were initially arrested but have since been released pending scientific examination results.

Animal rescue group “Stronger Together Animal Rescue” reported that Eddie has made “incredible progress” since his rescue. The dog is currently staying with a foster carer until he is stable enough to undergo surgery to remove a tumour.

The rescue group expressed gratitude to the veterinary clinic responsible for Eddie’s treatment and to those who provided financial support for his medical care.

The case has drawn further attention to animal welfare issues in Cyprus, with the rescue group noting that Eddie still requires ongoing medical attention for poor dental condition and ear infections.
