Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman posted yesterday afternoon that he had finished his preparations and consultations and was ready for the process beginning today with Holguín’s visit.
Guterres, UN officials and the public all know the approaches he has put forward in line with the will of the “people” for a solution, he added.
Guterres’s visit to the island matters, he said, and builds on the Secretary-General’s ongoing efforts. But it would be wrong to read into this visit a solution, or the start or end of any process.
“We support the efforts made by the Secretary-General and we are trying to contribute in good faith. As always, we carry out our work in close consultation with the authorities of the Republic of Turkey.”
He said the will of the “people” will remain his guiding principle, and he will keep the public informed promptly of developments, taking into account the views of all parts of society as he proceeds.
The Turkish Cypriot leader meets Holguín today at 11am.
