Patients at Paphos General Hospital are being forced to carry mobile equipment tables by hand because their wheels don’t work, according to complaints from patients and their relatives.
The tables are used to hold and transport individual medical equipment for patients undergoing dialysis, transfusions, and other treatments during their hospital stay. Patients and relatives say the tables were delivered with a wheel fault that prevents them from being rolled, forcing those relying on the equipment to lift and carry the tables by hand instead.
Paphos MP Chrysanthos Savvides of DIKO confirmed the complaints, telling Philenews he has personally received a wave of complaints from patients’ relatives in recent days over the unusual equipment malfunction.
Savvides said he is already raising the issue with the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO), seeking a swift replacement of the faulty tables at Paphos Hospital. He also wants an investigation into how a defective batch of equipment ended up at the hospital without the problem being caught in time.
