The 77-year-old man found dead in a burned-out car near Liopetri on May 11 sustained a gunshot wound to the head, sources told philenews.
British Bases authorities confirmed on Friday that Antonis Spetsiotis, a retired resident of Xylophagou, died from a gunshot wound. “The circumstances that led to this tragic incident continue to be investigated,” British Bases said, adding that all possibilities remain open and that criminal action has not been ruled out.
Investigators are processing CCTV footage and examining specific items of evidence recovered from the vehicle, which was destroyed by fire, in order to reach firm conclusions.
Spetsiotis was found after British Bases Police received a tip from a member of the public at 9am on Monday May 11, reporting a burned vehicle in an area near the Liopetri fish farm. Officers attended and found a charred, unidentifiable body inside. The Fire Service and British Bases CID also attended the scene.
