Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) Police have launched an investigation after a body was discovered inside a severely damaged burnt-out vehicle on Monday morning.
While formal identification is pending, authorities have confirmed the car is linked to a 77-year-old man from Xylofagou who was reported missing from his home since Sunday afternoon.
A post-mortem examination, scheduled for Tuesday at the SBA Akrotiri facilities, will include DNA sampling to confirm the identity and establish the exact cause of death.
The discovery was made around 9:00 am after a member of the public notified the SBA Police of a charred vehicle located in a rural area near the Liopetri fish farm.
Units from the Fire Service and the SBA Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrived at the scene to find the vehicle completely destroyed and a body inside.
Forensic teams have collected evidence from the site for scientific analysis as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
SBA Police are continuing their inquiries into the case.
