Limassol CID is examining CCTV footage from the areas where three cyclists were robbed by motorcyclists in the early hours of Tuesday, as investigators look into whether the same people carried out all three robberies.
Phileleftheros understands that investigators are considering a link because of similarities in how the robbers operated and their use of motorcycles. Investigators are also looking at two robberies of women on foot reported three days ago in the Agia Sofia area. A link to those cases may also be examined.
In the first of Tuesday’s robberies, a 23-year-old man told police that at around 3.30am two people on a large motorcycle approached him as he cycled along Promachon Eleftherias Street. The passenger got off and demanded his wallet, which held cash and bank cards. Fearing for his safety, the man handed it over. The robber then pushed him, got back on the motorcycle and rode off with his accomplice.
At about the same time and some 30 metres away, a 20-year-old woman cycling on the same street was approached by six people on three small motorcycles, according to her report to police. They were dressed in black, with helmets and black hoods. Two of them got off and demanded money. When she said she had none, they snatched her bag, which held cash and personal documents, and fled.
At around 4.50am, a 50-year-old woman cycling on Nikou Pattichi Street was approached by three people on two motorcycles, with hoods covering their faces, she told police. One of them snatched her bag, causing her to lose her balance and fall, and she suffered minor injuries to her face and hands. The robbers fled with the bag, which held cash, a mobile phone and other personal items.
