The passenger paid a total of 15,000 euros: 10,000 euros in duties and taxes, including a surcharge and interest, and a further 5,000 euros to settle the case out of court.

Officers stopped him for a baggage check on Friday, October 2. In his luggage they found 31 pieces of jewellery, made up of a set of earrings, a pendant, 10 rings, 17 bracelets and two necklaces, along with 13 diamonds and 32 jewellery certificates.

The items were seized. On Friday, October 9, the Customs Department issued a retrospective notice of customs and other debts, and the passenger’s request to settle the offence out of court was accepted.
