Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis has dismissed allegations of a cover-up in the police shooting death of a 24-year-old Pakistani man as “premature, unjustified and completely unfounded”.
Speaking on a CyBC programme, Hartsiotis challenged critics to present any evidence of a cover-up to police investigators, saying the accusations were not supported by publicly available information.
The minister said he retains President Christodoulides’s support and remains committed to addressing police force issues, which he acknowledged were more deeply rooted than initially anticipated when he took office.
Hartsiotis pledged to implement corrective measures to address “decades-old systemic problems” within the police force, saying he would work with the new police leadership to “relentlessly tackle corruption”.
