The Municipality of East Paphos has dismissed concerns over unusual foam-like patches appearing on Geroskipou beach, assuring residents that the phenomenon is natural and not caused by sewage pollution.
Following reports from bathers about the presence of white and brown patches resembling foam on the Municipal Beach of Geroskipou, the Municipality said it has conducted an investigation.
According to the Municipality, the findings of the scientists they consulted indicate that the phenomenon is related to the photosynthetic activity of organisms and not to sewage pollution.
The Municipality emphasised that the results of the sea water analyses at the Geroskipou bathing beaches, carried out by the Municipality, are very good.
It also noted that it has been informed by the Port Authority that since August 1, 2024, all vessels have been delivering their sewage to the shore, as has been the case in recent years, and this is now ensured to be done in the presence of the Port Authority or the Marine Police.
