Sewage-contaminated beach sparks outrage in Pervolia [VIDEO]

A growing public health and environmental issue is unfolding on Pervolia Beach as repeated incidents of sewage contamination continue to affect the popular coastal area.

Despite clear video evidence of the pollution, local authorities have consistently dismissed residents’ concerns, attributing the problem to harmless sea foam.

“We went to the site, and there are no sewage spills. What you see is foam created by the sea turbulence that occurred yesterday,” said Makis Gerolemou, the person in charge of beaches for the Dromolaxia Municipality.

He encouraged the residents to take a sample for analysis, adding that after repairing the water leak, nothing was flowing from the canal, and the Municipality cleaned the area.

However, residents insist that the recurring phenomenon is sewage, not sea foam, and poses a serious health risk, especially for children.

The municipality has faced mounting criticism for its handling of the issue.

After an initial claim that the pollution was potable water leaking from a hose, officials later admitted to discovering a pipe connecting a residential complex to the beach’s drainage system but insisted it was inactive.
