Independent MP Andreas Themistocleous is set to officially register a new political party, the Democratic National Movement, within the next two weeks.

The party’s core policies include preserving Greek Cypriot identity, opposing ‘woke culture’ including same-sex marriage and adoption, supporting social justice, and advocating for tax relief for middle and lower-income groups.

Themistocleous told philenews the party aims to attract voters across the political spectrum, from AKEL to DISY, ELAM, DIKO and EDEK parties.

He emphasised the movement welcomes all citizens, particularly those who identify as Greek.

The party plans to hold its founding conference in mid-April.

Regarding relations with the current government, Themistocleous said the party would assess government policies on their individual merits, supporting initiatives like enhanced defence and US relations while opposing policies such as gender-neutral parenting terms.

Themistocleous was previously expelled from both the far-right nationalist ELAM party and the right-wing DISY party, where he served as an MP.
