The government has restored internet connectivity and access to public sector websites after a cable fault disrupted services for approximately two to three hours on Tuesday morning, the Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation confirmed.
Key government portals including Ariadni and Taxisnet became inaccessible to citizens during the outage on 14 October. Government employees have resumed normal operations, and all websites are gradually becoming accessible again, the deputy ministry said.
Initial reports suggested a possible cyberattack, but authorities later attributed the disruption to a problem with an internet service provider.
“There is no cybersecurity issue or malicious activity whatsoever,” the Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation said in a statement.
Deputy Minister of Research and Innovation Nicodemos Damianou told Philenews the problem stemmed from a severed cable. Deputy Director General Giorgos Komodromos explained that the fault occurred on one provider’s line.
Repair crews were deployed and the fault was expected to be resolved shortly, Komodromos said.
