Cyprus’s government internet hub has experienced connectivity problems since this morning after a service provider cable was cut, affecting access for government employees and the public.
Government employees, including those at the Presidential Palace, cannot connect to the internet, according to information obtained by Philenews. Websites such as Ariadne and Taxisnet are inaccessible to the public, with error messages appearing on users’ screens.
Initial speculation suggested a cyber attack, but subsequent information attributed the outage to a problem with the internet service provider.
Deputy Minister for Research and Innovation Nikodimos Damianou told Philenews in his first statement that the problem was due to a cable cut.

Deputy Director General of the Deputy Ministry Yiorgos Komodromos explained to Philenews that it is a fault in a line belonging to one of the providers. He added that crews are on site and the fault is expected to be restored shortly.
No cyber security issue involved
The Deputy Ministry for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy issued a statement emphasising that there is no cyber security issue or malicious activity involved.
The ministry informed the public that a temporary malfunction is being experienced today in access to certain state electronic services due to a technical issue arising from a telecommunications provider cable cut.
Technical teams are working intensively to fully restore normal operations within the coming hours, the statement said. The deputy ministry thanked the public for its understanding and patience.
Ministry official websites remain accessible to citizens, but not from government service computers.
