Two people have been found dead in a completely burnt vehicle on the Monagri-Alassa road while a Limassol wildfire was raging, with evidence suggesting the occupants became trapped when flames crossed the escape route.

Civil Defence members initially reported discovering one deceased person around 9:00 PM inside the car that had been completely burnt. Later police information around 2:00 AM confirmed that a second charred body was found within the same vehicle.

The burnt vehicle containing the two charred remains was moved this morning and transferred to Limassol Police Directorate. The car was discovered in Monagri, positioned on the roadside of the main Alassa-Monagri road, two kilometres from Alassa.

The vehicle was heading toward Limassol when the tragedy occurred, according to photographs published by Channel 6, obtained from station listeners who participated in community firefighting efforts.

Police continue examinations to identify the remains as the investigation into the circumstances continues.

The location where the car was found had experienced intense fire activity during the night, with dense vegetation and wild pine trees surrounding the road from Trimiklini toward Limassol.

The fire appears to have crossed over the road toward Alassa community at the moment the occupants were attempting to escape.

Evidence suggests the occupants became trapped in the vehicle as the fire swept across the road, preventing their escape from what had likely been intended as an evacuation route.
