The battle against flare-ups continues in the massive fire that erupted Wednesday afternoon in the Limassol district’s mountainous areas, though no active front currently exists after the blaze caused extensive damage and left entire communities devastated.
The fire spread rapidly with strong winds and high temperatures as allies, destroying dozens of homes, thousands of acres of agricultural land and valuable properties. The blaze has left behind ash and debris whilst claiming two lives.

Emergency crews remain engaged in containment efforts as authorities assess the full scale of destruction across multiple mountain communities that were forced to evacuate under emergency conditions.

The fire’s rapid expansion was fuelled by adverse weather conditions that hampered initial suppression efforts, allowing the flames to consume residential areas and agricultural land before emergency services could establish effective containment lines.
Recovery operations are now focusing on preventing re-ignition whilst damage assessment teams work to catalogue the losses across the affected region.
Communities across the Limassol mountain area are beginning to confront the extent of destruction to homes, infrastructure and natural environment as the immediate fire threat appears to have subsided.
