Customs officers at Paphos Airport stopped four British passengers on July 27 before their departure for Manchester in the United Kingdom.

Their luggage contained large quantities of rolling tobacco. The packets carried none of the Greek and Turkish-language health warnings, nor the security feature and unique traceability code, indicating the tobacco was untaxed and undeclared.

The quantities found were as follows:

  • Passenger one: 640 packets of 50 grams each, 32 kilograms in total.
  • Passenger two: 650 packets of 50 grams each, 32 kilograms and 500 grams in total.
  • Passenger three: 596 packets of 50 grams each, 29 kilograms and 800 grams in total.
  • Passenger four: 621 packets of 50 grams each, 31 kilograms and 50 grams in total.

All four were arrested, caught in the act, and their luggage and its contents, 125 kilograms and 350 grams of tobacco in total, were seized.

All four appeared before Paphos District Court today, which issued a four-day detention order against them.
