President Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar will meet Monday at UN envoy Colin Stewart’s residence to discuss the opening of more checkpoints in Cyprus.

Speaking outside the Presidential Palace, Christodoulides expressed satisfaction that Tatar had agreed to the meeting. “I am going to the meeting with very specific approaches and suggestions that benefit all communities,” he said.

The president indicated his readiness to make announcements as early as today, emphasising that his proposals take into account “the concerns of all people, both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.”

The meeting, hosted at UN Special Representative Colin Stewart’s residence near Nicosia airport, follows agreements made during an informal dinner in New York on October 15, 2024, hosted by the UN Secretary-General with both leaders.

The Greek Cypriot side has already submitted proposals to negotiate new crossing points at Pyroi and Kokkina during previous meetings between negotiators from both sides with Stewart. The Turkish Cypriot side has expressed interest in establishing a regular checkpoint at Mia Milia.
