The Attorney General has suspended the prosecution of a man who, according to recent evidence, gave instructions for eight kilograms of cocaine to be picked up and stored, Limassol Criminal Court heard on Wednesday. The court accepted the request, which the prosecution made on the Attorney General’s instructions.
The man had been named by a 46-year-old whom the same court, sitting with a different panel, unanimously sentenced on July 29 to ten years in prison for possessing the cocaine with intent to supply. After admitting the charges, the 46-year-old said he was willing to testify against him for the prosecution, but he apparently did not go ahead.
The accused was arrested in April, and the case against him was filed at the court while he was being held on remand at the Central Prisons.
According to the facts of the case, the Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN), which found the drugs on August 12, 2025, received information that day that the 46-year-old was involved in trafficking and dealing large quantities of cocaine and cannabis, which he allegedly hid in a vehicle parked away from his home.
He was put under discreet surveillance from midday. He went home, then to a car repair garage in Episkopi, from where he walked to a parked vehicle and opened its boot before driving home. At about 1.10pm he returned to the garage and opened the boot of the same vehicle again. According to the case evidence, he took out a black plastic bag and went back to his car, and YKAN officers chased and stopped him.
