France is recalling more condoms after its consumer watchdog said on Friday that a manufacturing defect made them more likely to burst or tear.
The agency said it was suspending sales and imports for a year of every condom brand produced by a Malaysian manufacturer using the faulty process. The suspension can be renewed if necessary.
The order covers about seven million condoms destined for the European Union, only some of which are sold in France.
The anti-fraud agency said its investigation found that the process used to make the range of ultra-thin condoms “risks fluctuating the thickness and the quality of the latex”. It said this put users at greater risk of sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy.
Eight users have reported condoms tearing since the first recalls, the watchdog said.
In August, French anti-fraud and health agencies recalled about 260,000 condoms for the same reason.
