A 35-year-old man was referred on Friday for trial before the Limassol permanent Criminal Court over the importation of 1.197 kilos of methamphetamine. The drugs were sent to Cyprus in a parcel from France.
Phileleftheros understands the parcel had been declared as car parts. During questioning, the suspect reportedly claimed he had been acting on instructions from a third person. He also reportedly provided specific information, which the Limassol Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN) is now investigating.
The trial is set to begin in early January 2027. The man will remain in custody until then.
He faces charges of importing and possessing drugs, possessing drugs with intent to supply, and money laundering.
The investigation began after authorities in a European country alerted Cypriot police that a parcel containing methamphetamine was being sent to Cyprus.
Working with the Customs Department, officers from the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (DAOE) and YKAN traced the parcel to Larnaca airport on 21 October, where it had arrived from France. When it was delivered on the afternoon of 23 October, the man presented himself as the recipient and was arrested.
The operation was carried out in the Larnaca and Limassol districts.
