12 arrested in nationwide police crackdown during overnight operation

Police arrested 12 people during coordinated nationwide operations overnight across Cyprus, targeting crime prevention and public order, according to authorities.

The police carried out organised patrols in urban areas to prevent serious criminal activity, maintain public order and increase public safety, they said.

As part of the operation, officers arrested 12 individuals for offences including theft, causing alarm and drug-related violations, according to police.

Authorities said 493 vehicles were stopped for inspection during the night, while 715 drivers and passengers were checked.

Police also carried out 44 inspections of premises, resulting in seven complaints.

Traffic enforcement checks led to 186 reported violations, including 50 cases of speeding, police said.

A total of 162 alcohol tests were conducted, with eight positive results recorded, while nine preliminary drug tests produced three positive results.

Police also impounded 10 vehicles as part of the wider checks.

Authorities said the coordinated policing operations will continue daily, with increased presence, targeted inspections and rapid response action aimed at preventing and tackling crime and ensuring public safety.
