The President of the European Athletics Federation, Dobromir Karamarinov, has declared Cyprus a safe destination for all athletes competing in the European Throwing Cup.
Karamarinov made the remarks to reporters following a meeting at the Presidential Palace with President Nikos Christodoulides, accompanied by Cyprus Athletics Federation (KOEAS) President Periklis A. Markaris.
The tournament will take place in Nicosia on 14 and 15 of March. It is the second consecutive year the European Throwing Cup takes place in the capital of Cyprus.
Speaking after the meeting, Karamarinov said he was happy to be in Cyprus for the European Throwing Cup, which was held on the island last year, is taking place again this year, and will return for a third consecutive edition next year. He added that athletes from all 34 participating countries are safe, and sought to reassure everyone that Cyprus is a safe place, free of problems.
Karamarinov also thanked KOEAS for what he described as an excellent organisation, expressing confidence that the Olympic champions and world champions present on the island are both safe and satisfied.
Markaris said it was “truly a great honour for Cyprus to be hosting the European Throwing Cup for three consecutive years,” describing the event as a major European competition. He noted that last year’s inaugural edition at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia had been a great success.
Markaris added that participation from 34 countries across Europe represented a vote of confidence — from the European Federation, its president, and all 34 member federations.
