Turkey’s Ministry of Defence announced the deployment of a NATO Patriot missile defense system in the city of Malatya, located in southeastern Turkey. This measure is part of enhanced air and missile defense steps in response to rising tensions in the region.

According to the statement, all necessary measures are being taken to protect the country’s borders and airspace, with continuous consultations ongoing with NATO and Turkey’s allies.

It is also noted that Malatya hosts the Kürecik radar base, which provides critical data for the alliance and helped identify two Iranian ballistic missiles heading towards Turkey.

Full Statement from the Ministry of Defence:

“The Turkish Armed Forces remain fully committed to ensuring the security of our country and its citizens. In light of recent developments in our region, the necessary measures are being taken to protect our borders and airspace, while we are in continuous discussions with NATO and our Allies.

In addition to the national measures we have implemented, NATO has strengthened air and missile defense measures. In this context, a Patriot system is already in place in Malatya and is being prepared for operational readiness to contribute to the protection of our airspace.

Our country, which maintains its defense and security capability at the highest level, will continue to assess developments in cooperation and consultation with NATO and our Allies, striving for regional peace and stability.”
