President Nikos Christodoulides on Monday called the signing of contracts worth up to 1.8 billion dollars to develop the Cronos gas field a decisive step towards exploiting Cyprus’s natural resources, linking it to the first commercial use of Cypriot gas.
In a written statement, he said the signing was “a strong vote of confidence” in the country’s energy prospects, with particular geopolitical and economic significance.
He said it would help strengthen the economy further and give the state more scope to invest in policies that improve people’s daily lives and quality of life.
Christodoulides said that making use of Cyprus’s comparative advantages and strengthening all the sources of the Republic’s power had been a strategic goal from the outset, and described the agreement as a tangible result of that approach.
He said the government was building a Cyprus that is economically stronger and geopolitically upgraded, making full use of its potential for the benefit of the country and its people.
