A 49-year-old nurse, who allegedly committed an indecent assault on a patient whilst examining him, was brought before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni.

According to philenews information, a month ago, employees at the Famagusta Hospital Health Centre, where the nurse worked, became aware of a similar incident. However, the alleged victim did not proceed with a complaint.

Notably, the 49-year-old nurse’s name had previously been involved in the high-profile case of the abduction of two children from a Larnaca school in 2018.

Specifically, the nurse was detained by order of the Larnaca District Court for interference in judicial proceedings. He had been arrested after allegedly attempting to influence a doctor who was treating the perpetrator of the two children’s abduction, who was convicted and imprisoned.

At that time, the nurse worked at another hospital and had been placed on suspension. He was subsequently transferred, according to information from competent sources, to primary care and placed at Famagusta Health Centre.

The new complaint against the nurse was made by a 44-year-old foreign national to Famagusta Police on 14 June. The suspect was brought before the Famagusta District Court for the issuance of an arrest warrant.

In statements to Philenews, SHSO press spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said the Organisation awaits official notification. “If a detention order is issued, we will proceed with all appropriate procedures to place him on suspension”.
