Police are awaiting crucial reports from labour inspectors and fire services to complete their investigation into a fatal factory fire that killed a 63-year-old electrician last November in Dromolaxia.
The Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has concluded the main part of their inquiry into the blaze at the polystyrene manufacturing plant, with potential criminal charges pending the final expert assessments.
Police are investigating the case as death by negligence and reckless conduct, focusing on the actions of two individuals who were present on the ground floor when the fire started.
Preliminary findings indicate the fire was sparked by tool friction on the factory’s ground floor, where four workers managed to evacuate safely.
The electrician, who was not a factory employee, had been called in by the owner on Sunday, November 3, to conduct electrical work on the first floor.
The rapid spread of the fire, accelerated by materials stored in the facility, trapped the victim, leading to his death.
The Fire Service report will detail the cause of the blaze, while the Labour Inspection Department’s findings will assess compliance with safety regulations during maintenance operations.
