A 47-year-old man in Limassol has reported being scammed online by individuals posing as investment advisors for cryptocurrencies.
The man told police he encountered the scammers on a website and was persuaded to invest after being promised guaranteed returns.
Following the instructions of the unknown individual, the 47-year-old man gave access to his computer screen to help him create an account (portfolio) on a specific cryptocurrency platform.
Subsequently, as instructed, the 47-year-old transferred a total of €11,591 in four separate instances on September 20, through an exchange, to his personal portfolio.
The money was subsequently transferred to another account, and the man realised he had been scammed when the fraudsters demanded more funds.
