Police warns of new SMS scam

Relevant News

Police are urging the public to be vigilant about a new scam involving text messages (SMS).

According to the Cybercrime Division, there has been an increase in the number of mass text messages sent to a large number of users, falsely claiming to be from a specific cryptocurrency exchange.

If the recipient already has an account with the specific cryptocurrency exchange, the fraudulent message will be placed in the same message group as the user’s other messages, aiming to deceive them into believing it is authentic.

The misleading message’s content states that there has been an attempt to gain unauthorised access to the user’s account and encourages them to transfer their funds to a specific digital wallet, resulting in their loss.

Users are advised to ignore these specific messages and log into their accounts themselves to check their activity.
