Incidents of illegal caravan presence on the beaches in the area occur annually, but this year, the situation escalated, with dozens of caravans and modified vans appearing on this particular beach, causing nuisance and an “unacceptable image“. As a result, the local authorities received numerous complaints.

Larnaca Mayor, Andreas Vyras, told us that all caravan owners were notified last Monday to move their vehicles immediately. However, some owners failed to comply, prompting Municipality and District Administration crews to take action this morning.

They are now removing all illegally parked vehicles from the premises, transferring them to the Larnaca District Administration warehouses. Owners of these vehicles will now have to go there to retrieve them after paying a fine.

“It was an area where an unacceptable situation prevailed. Arbitrarily and without any approval from any Authority, some individuals were violating legislation concerning beaches and causing a nuisance. Even on private plots, caravans, under legislation, require a building permit, which none of them had,” said Vyras, adding that the operation to restore order and cleanliness was inevitable.
