Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides appears to have brought a touch of luck to the Cypriot Olympic team, particularly fencer Alex Tofalides.
During a visit to the Olympic Village, the president enjoyed a fencing lesson from Tofalides, who subsequently advanced to the round of 32 in the Men’s Foil event.
While ultimately defeated by American rival Nick Itkin, Tofalides’ performance was a highlight for the Cypriot delegation.
“President Nikos Christodoulides proved to be a lucky charm for Team Cyprus and especially for Alex Tofalides, from whom he received some private fencing lessons on Sunday (July 28) during his visit to the Olympic Village,” the Cyprus Olympics Committee playfully suggested.
