A 39-year-old man, who admitted to driving the rental vehicle in which a 24-year-old Pakistani man was killed by police, is currently assisting authorities in reconstructing the events in the buffer zone in Potamia.

Following an eight-day detention order, investigators have taken the suspect to various locations connected to the case to identify crucial details about the incident.

The first location visited was Calypso Street in Acropolis, where the suspect acknowledged leaving the 24-year-old, who he claimed was still alive but visibly distressed at the time.

Nicosia CID investigators plan to take the suspect to Potamia to indicate where the rental vehicle was positioned during the encounter with police officers.

Authorities acknowledge that precise location identification might be challenging due to darkness during the incident on January 6, but establishing the vehicle’s trajectory when the police officer fired is crucial to the investigation. The court heard today that the driver claimed to be unaware of the shooting, explaining why he did not recognise the source of the victim’s pain complaints.

The scene reconstructions will be documented to determine the positions of other vehicles involved, including the police car.

Investigators say there are still significant gaps in the case, with the recent emergence of a Turkish Cypriot connection further complicating the investigation.
