A new demonstration in support of Palestine is set to take place at Eleftherias Square, Nicosia, on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 14:00.
Organised by the group ‘United for Palestine – Cyprus’ and called “Cyprus Stands with Palestine Protest”, the mobilisation aims to raise awareness about the escalating violence resulting from the ongoing war in Gaza.
In its announcement, the group highlights that “There is no safe place in Gaza! Despite this in a recent vote of the UN Security Council the US showed its continued participation in this bloody war by opposing a ceasefire”.
It further argues that the ongoing global protests in support of Palestinians are beginning to have an impact.
“Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his dire concern that the global protests are undermining the war effort, PUMA has dropped its sponsorship of the Israeli football association” it notes.
“Importantly, Cyprus has shifted its vote from abstention to being in favor of a ceasefire in a recent UN general assembly motion” the announcement concludes.
