Two men appeared under tight security at the Paphos Criminal Court on Friday in connection with a prison escape case, with the trial date set for May 14, 2025.

Doros Theophanous, 42, serving a life sentence, admitted escaping from lawful custody but denied conspiracy charges with his co-defendant, a 26-year-old alleged accomplice.

The younger defendant denied charges of assisting a prisoner’s escape but admitted disobeying lawful orders by contacting Theophanous. Prosecutors allege the two conspired in a felony plot leading up to September 26.

The prosecution requested both defendants remain in custody until trial, with no objection from defence lawyers Alexandros Alexandrou, Savvas Matsas, and Eleni Alexandrou representing Theophanous, and Elias Satolias for the 26-year-old.

The court ordered both men to remain in custody until the May 2025 hearing.
