The police are investigating an alleged online investment scam involving $58,000, following a complaint filed by a 50-year-old man with the Limassol CID on Friday.

According to the man’s statement, he came across a website in December that advertised high-return investment plans, including cryptocurrency opportunities. Attracted by the potential profits, he invested a total of $58,000 through the platform.

When he later attempted to withdraw his purported earnings, he was asked to deposit additional funds to unlock his money. Suspicious of the demand, he realized he may have been defrauded after failing to recover both his initial investment and the supposed profits.

The Economic Crime Investigation Office of Limassol CID is handling the case.

In light of this incident, police have issued a public warning, urging individuals to exercise caution when conducting online transactions or investments. Authorities emphasized the importance of working exclusively with licensed companies and certified financial advisors for any financial dealings.

Police also reminded the public to safeguard sensitive information, such as bank account details, card numbers, and login credentials, and to avoid sharing personal data with unverified sources.
