Authorities are working with the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Crime to locate three Turkish Cypriot suspects in connection with the death of a 24-year-old Pakistani man by police fire on January 6.

Police are searching for two brothers aged, 22, and 31, along with their 62-year-old father, a police spokesperson told the Cyprus News Agency.

The suspects face charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, and facilitating illegal entry and stay in the Republic of Cyprus. The alleged offences occurred on 6 January 2025 in the Potamia area.

A 39-year-old suspect arrested on Wednesday in connection with the case is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court for a detention hearing.

Police said they requested assistance from the Bicommunal Technical Committee “from the first moment” to help locate the Turkish Cypriot suspects.

The incident occurred near the buffer zone near Potamia on January 6. Initial Cyprus Police reports indicated the shooting took place while officers attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be involved in a smuggling operation. However, forensic findings suggesting the Pakistani man was shot in the back have contradicted the initial police account.

The victim’s body was found in a car parking in Strovolos, around 20 km away from Potamia. Questions remain on how it ended up there.
