Immediately after being discharged from the Athalassa Mental Health Hospital, the 50-year-old suspect in the murder of his 43-year-old brother-in-law in Peyia was re-arrested by the police and taken into custody. The suspect had been hospitalized at the Mental Health Hospital for a week.

He is being investigated for premeditated murder in the case of Stelios Stylianou from Peyia, whose sister is married to the suspect. The murder of the 43-year-old plumber occurred late in the evening of July 3 at the suspect’s home, where the entire family had gathered for dinner.

Police investigations indicate that an argument broke out over a trivial matter, and the 50-year-old shot the 43-year-old with a hunting rifle, fatally wounding him. The alleged perpetrator then fled the scene but later visited Paphos Hospital, where he was found to have abrasions on his legs and various bruises.

He was arrested under a court warrant and taken into custody, where he confessed to the crime during interrogation.

According to the autopsy report, Stylianou’s death was caused by internal bleeding and the crushing of vital organs due to a gunshot wound.
