Paphos District Court on Friday remanded two people, aged 22 and 28, for six days in connection with an alleged attempted murder, after a 74-year-old man said a driver tried to hit him with a car and two people then threw chairs at him. Police are also investigating acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

According to the 74-year-old, who lives in Paphos, he was outside a block of flats in the town at around 4pm on Wednesday, 4 November, when an unknown driver tried to hit him with a car but missed. The driver then allegedly crashed into the man’s car deliberately, damaging it.

After the driver left, two unknown people allegedly approached and threw chairs at him, injuring his legs, back and head, he said.

He went to Paphos General Hospital, where he was found to have a haematoma on the back of his head, a broken nose and abrasions to his legs. He was kept in for treatment and discharged on Thursday.

Evidence emerged against the 22-year-old and the 28-year-old during the investigation, and both were arrested on Thursday on court warrants.

Paphos CID is continuing the investigation.
