Christodoulides to return to US seeking investment and tech talent

Relevant News

President Nikos Christodoulides will lead a Cypriot delegation to the United States again at the end of November, aiming to attract new companies and investment and to bring Cypriot technology and innovation professionals back home.

As part of the trip, the Presidency and Invest Cyprus will hold an event in New York on 30 November, attended by Christodoulides, under the ‘Minds in Cyprus – The Brain Gain Initiative’. It aims to put Cypriot professionals working in the US in direct contact with businesses in Cyprus that are looking for specialist staff.

The government treats attracting foreign companies and bringing back Cypriot scientists and professionals abroad as two sides of the same strategy: new businesses create demand for specialist staff, and returning professionals can help meet it. Although some technology companies are willing to operate in Cyprus, they have had second thoughts because of the country’s limited pool of specialist staff.

Earlier visit

The new trip follows meetings Christodoulides held in the US in April 2025 with representatives of companies including Nvidia, Amazon, Google, OpenAI, Tenstorrent and Plug and Play. Those contacts were linked to Plug and Play and Tenstorrent setting up in Cyprus, and both have since opened offices on the island.

Nvidia has not opened an office in Cyprus, but it contributed to developing infrastructure and to installing and running the country’s first real supercomputer. Contacts also continued after the April 2025 meetings with Amazon, Google, OpenAI, Oracle and Microsoft.

The chairman of Invest Cyprus said recently that two more US companies had approached the organisation, asking about setting up and operating in Cyprus.

Christodoulides announced the trip in recent days. He said meetings with Cypriot scientists and entrepreneurs working in technology and innovation had led to Cyprus Catalyst, a network of Cypriot technology, science and innovation professionals in the US that aims to link Cypriot businesses with the US technology sector through partnerships, investment opportunities and prospects for growth.

He said the goal was to turn international contacts into tangible partnerships, investment and opportunities for the Cypriot economy, and that the new visit served the same aim.

The New York event

The event is aimed at Cypriot professionals working in the US, entrepreneurs, company executives and representatives of the Cypriot business community. According to the published programme, participants will hear about current and future jobs in Cyprus, meet company representatives and take part in one-to-one matchmaking meetings with companies seeking specific skills and experience.

They will also be briefed on the Cypriot economy, its main growth sectors, investment opportunities and the business environment, as well as the government’s Action Plan for Talent Repatriation and the options available to those considering a return to Cyprus. The programme also includes networking with other Cypriot scientists, entrepreneurs and members of the wider US-Cyprus business community.
